ME-SEN: Another Tossup? Allen Closing In On Collins

Wed Jun 18, 2008 at 12:10:07 PM PDT

Rasmussen just released a new poll, and the bad news for the GOP continues virtually unabated:

SUSAN COLLINS (R-INC) 49%, TOM ALLEN (D) 42%

The poll, conducted on Monday of this week, is the latest in a series of polls this week which have been rosy for the Democrats, and (by and large) depressing for the GOP.

Consider some of the other polling this week in non-presidential matchups:

LA-SEN: Mary Landrieu (D-Inc) 49%, John Kennedy (R) 33%
Granted, this is an internal poll, taken by the Mellman Group for the Landrieu campaign. But this is a substantial lead in one of the few GOP targets in the Senate.

VA-SEN: Mark Warner (D) 59%, Jim Gilmore (R) 28%
This came out today, courtesy of Public Policy Polling. And it might explain why NRSC chairman John Ensign chalked off Gilmore in an interview with the Christian Science Monitor.

KY-SEN: Mitch McConnell (R-Inc) 50%, Bruce Lunsford (D) 46%
SurveyUSA came in here, and confirm previous pollsters that had this race surprisingly close. As an added bonus, SUSA had Obama cutting his deficit by MORE THAN HALF here (going from 27 down to just 12 points).

The one dim spot, an SUSA poll showing Norm Coleman up 12 on Al Franken in Minnesota, seems to have some demographic questions within it (only 35% Democratic sample). When Obama only leads by one in the presidential matchup, a grain of salt might be in order.

All in all, a very good week for Democrats, if polls are to be believed.
